Common questions

What do my friends see?

Only the city or neighborhood you're in, like "Brooklyn" or "Lisbon". They never see your street, a pin, a route, or when you got there. Only people you both follow can see it.

Does Around track me in the background?

No. Around only asks for "While Using the App" location. On iOS that also covers the Around widget while it's on your screen, which is how your city stays fresh without opening the app. You never need to allow "Always".

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit in the top-left corner, then Add Widget. Search for Around, pick a size, and tap Add Widget. When iOS asks whether the widget can use your location, tap Allow.

How do I add friends?

Open the friends list and tap the add-friend button at the top. You can find friends from your contacts (numbers are matched as one-way hashes; your address book is never uploaded) or send an invite link. You see each other's city once you both follow each other.

How do I stop sharing for a while?

Settings → Pause sharing. Friends see that you've paused, and nothing updates until you turn it back on.

How do I remove someone?

In the friends list, touch and hold their name, then tap Remove friend. They stop seeing your city immediately.

How do I block or report someone?

In the friends list or your requests, touch and hold the person, then tap Block or Report. Blocking removes them from your friends and requests, and neither of you can find or follow the other. They aren't told. A report goes to us for review, and you can block them in the same step. To unblock someone, go to Settings → Blocked people. Unblocking doesn't reconnect you; you'd need to follow each other again.

My Passport has a city I only passed through.

Around only adds a city after you've spent time there, so drive-throughs and flights shouldn't count. If one slips in, open Passport, swipe the city left, and tap Remove.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. Your profile, connections, city and Passport are erased right away.
